What is the Best Tennis Elbow Brace / Tennis Elbow Strap / Tennis Elbow Support?
An Elbow Strap and an Elbow Support comes in all shapes and sizes
As you can clearly see from the pictures of an Elbow Strap that I randomly selected from google images an Elbow Brace does indeed come in all shapes and sizes.
They vary from a tennis elbow band that is held in place by velcro fasteners through to full elbow sleeve support.
How Does an Elbow Strap Work?
An elbow strap works by providing pressure over the upper portion of the muscles attached to the lateral epicondyle. This pressure alters the angle at which the muscle tendon attaches to the lateral epicondyle. Just look at the subtle difference in the 2 pictures below. There is also a compression effect on the belly of the muscles which affects the tension developed by the muscle.
Different Types of Tennis Elbow Bands
Epitrain Elbow Support
This Knitted elbow support incorporates two anatomically-contoured silicone inserts surrounding the medical and lateral epicondyles and lying over the flexor and extensor muscles.
These insets leave the epicondyle pressure-free and provide an intermittent compression to the soft tissue of the joint, leading to increased circulation thus aiding in the resorption of swelling and oedema.
Promotes proprioception, thus heightening sensory awareness of the elbow for increased joint stabilization. The anatomical knit carries controlled compression graduated at the edges to prevent constriction of circulation.
It’s lightweight, breathable, will not retain heat and is completely machine washable.
Epicondylitis Clasp, Tennis Elbow Strap
This type of Elbow Strap has a “C-shaped” plastic part which goes round the back of the arm is reduces the squeezing effect on the forearm.
Epicondylitis Clasp, improves circulation.Absorbent, wool felt support can be used to treat medial or lateral epicondylitis. Sturdy elastic strap offers a snug fit. Small, unobtrusive size will not impair circulation. Wash with wool-cleaning products.
Aircast Tennis Elbow Armband
Some elbow bands are fitted with a piece that increases the pressure over the muscle belly. This piece is like a small pillow – this one uses an air cell.
Aircast Tennis Elbow Armband, Beige – Aircast Tennis Elbow Armband – Pneumatic air cell & non – elastic strap dissipate the impact load through the extensor & flexor muscles of the forearm, reducing the impact stress concentration at the bone/tendon junction of the epicondyle. Latex free.
